Series; Album of One Hundred Flowers by Hisui, 1920 - 1922

Album of One Hundred Flowers by Hisui - The talented Hisui Sugiura worked as a graphic designer for the Mitsukoshi Department Store during the Taisho era (1912 - 1926). Considered a pioneer of modern design in Japan, Sugiura created hundreds of posters, magazine covers, and illustrations for Mitsukoshi. He is also well known for his masterwork woodblock print series "Album of One Hundred Flowers by Hisui." Published by Shunyodo from 1920 - 1922, these lovely, first edition designs are beautifully drawn with delicate, sensitive line work and attractive nuances of color. Each print features a publisher's label on the reverse. These handsome floral prints would make a wonderful framed display, either singly or in groups. An extremely rare series and a great choice for a collector interested in modern Japanese design.
