Threatening Man and Praying Beauty

Comments - Interesting scene of a man threatening his companion, raising his sword high above his head. His intended victim turns his head away with an angry frown, while a gray-haired samurai looks over the garden gate at left. A young beauty kneels at right, bowing her head and clasping her hands together as she prays. The sliding panels along the back of the room feature a view of Kiyomizu temple. A intriguing kabuki subject, nicely detailed with burnishing in the black kimono and black kimono collar.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 28"
