Hollyhock Slope outside Toranomon Gate, 1862 - Interesting view looking out over the rooftop towards Edo Castle outside Toranomon Gate, with Aoi or Hollyhock Slope leading up the left edge of the page. At top center, water cascades over the edge of the castle embankment into the moat, creating a dramatic focal point. The street in the foreground is busy with shoppers and travelers, with vendors displaying their wares in stalls along the edge of the road. At lower left, the tip of a torii gate at Konpira Shrine can be seen. An interesting subject.
