Series; Sixty-nine Post Stations of the Kisokaido Road, 1852 - 1853
Kuniyoshi's Sixty-nine Post Stations of the
Nagakubo: Oshichi and Kichiza, 1852 - Attractive scene of the young beauty Oshichi carrying a calligraphy panel signed by herself. She smiles down at her companion, Kichiza, who sits on a bench before her. The beauty wears a lovely black kimono patterned with cherry blossoms, irises, and other flowers, the flowing fabric trailing onto the floor around her. Kichiza looks up at her rather questioningly, his hands clasped atop a folding fan in his lap. The rooftops of the city can be seen in the distance among low lying clouds. The inset at upper left shows travelers arriving at Nagakubo, with tea stands clustered under a tall pine tree. A handsome subject, nicely detailed.
