Portraits of the Heroes of the Suikoden - Hokusai's series "Portraits of the Heroes of the Suikoden" features depictions of the 108 heroes of the popular Chinese novel "The Water Margin" (Suikoden in Japanese). Loosely based on historical events, the book tells the story of a group of 108 rebels living at the edge of Liangshan Marsh who helped to protect the poor and oppressed. Subjects include warriors battling, figures in quieter moments, and even a few supernatural or celestial beings. Beautifully drawn with fine detail and wonderfully expressive figures, these black and white portraits bring this popular story to life. A great opportunity to acquire a classic Hokusai design from this series.
