Original Gekko (1859 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Illustration of the Occupation of Weihaiwei, 1895

Comments - Action-packed scene of Japanese capturing Camp Ikaiei during the Battle of Weihaiwei in the Sino-Japanese War. Japanese Imperial Army troops rush up the hillside past the Chinese fort at left. Explosions rock the landscape as shells explode in orange starbursts amongst clouds of gray smoke. At upper right, a Chinese soldier tumbles backwards through the air from an assault on a cannon emplacement, still gripping a long-handled brush. An incredible depiction of an intense battle, wonderfully detailed and shaded, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Gekko (1859 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 3/4" x 29 1/2"

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Some staining. Soiling. Light rubbing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
