Children's Daimyo Procession, circa 1835

Comments - Fascinating depiction of children enacting a daimyo's procession as it travels through the countryside. This unusual horizontal format triptych shows young boys dressed as samurai and footmen parading along past tall pine trees, with a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji in the distance. In the center, the nobleman rides on a dappled horse accompanied by his retainers armed with swords covered with traveling cases. Footmen carry standards and trunks. A terrific design with wonderful detail in the expressive figures and a lovely landscape background. The Honolulu (Hawaii) Museum of Art has this image in its collection. A rare triptych and an interesting choice for a collector.
