Meiji Imperial Banquet, 1881

Comments - Terrific scene of a lavish banquet at the Meiji Imperial Palace. Groups of beauties kneel on the floor enjoying cups of sake and refreshments carried in on lacquer trays while the Emperor and Empress watch from a platform at left. A cloth-covered table in the center holds trays of food and a large floral arrangement with peonies, irises, and cherry blossoms. Wonderful detail in the sumptuous fabrics and interior furnishings. A handsome print with vibrant color and delicate embossing on the white kimono trim.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 28" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight separation along vertical fold at side of each panel, thinning spot, repaired. Slight soiling, a few stains and creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
