Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
High Class Tea Ceremony, 1881

Comments - Attractive scene of member of the Imperial Court taking part in a tea ceremony while the Meiji Emperor watches from a table at left. At bottom center, a princess carefully holds the tea bowl. Trays of sweets are spread out on the floor before her. Just above, a lady-in-waiting leans over a container of steaming hot water. Wonderful detail in the elegant palace setting and furnishings, detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim. We've never come across this Chikanobu subject before.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown
