The Night Attack of the 47 Ronin, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Great scene from the legendary "Kanadehon Chushingura" of the 47 ronin during the night attack on Moronao's castle. In the foreground, a ronin fights with one of Moronao's retainers kneeling in the snow, the pair clashing swords as a spear is thrust at the enemy's chest. Behind them, a samurai directs a prisoner bound with a rope around his torso. Fighting continues in the palace behind them, with one man falling over the roof from the upper story. A lively design with expressive figures and a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Light soiling. Slight toning. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
