Kuniyoshi's Sixty-nine Post Stations of the
Narai: Oroku and Zenkichi, 1852 - Attractive scene of Zenkichi saying goodbye to his wife, Oroku, as he prepares to leave on a trip. Under his heavy coat, his striped blue kimono is tucked up at the waist for easier movement, and he carries a straw hat. Several parcels are hung from a cloth sash over his shoulders. He looks at his wife with a worried frown, but she smiles up at him as she bows. The shop behind them features displays of wooden combs, with boxes of combs stacked at right. A comb-shaped inset shows a mountainous landscape with yellow mist settling in the valley in the foreground. An interesting subject with wonderful detail in the setting.
