Prince Genji Viewing Cherry Blossoms, 1859

Comments - Lovely scene of Prince Genji and his companions enjoying a spring outing to view the blossoming cherry trees. He stands in the center, grinning as he watches the children at right playing a game, a line led by a girl chasing after a fleeing boy. At left, a beauty and a princess relaxing on a bench covered with a floral cloth next to a stone lantern. A large garden pond stretches out behind them, with a bridge to a small teahouse over the water in the center. Above the water at upper left, wooden posts support the branches of an ancient pine tree, and the lighted windows of a palace can be seen at upper right. A charming spring design, nicely detailed, with light embossing on the white kimono trim.

Image Size - 14" x 29 1/4"
