Beauties and Landscapes Sugoroku Game Board, 1861

Comments - Fantastic sugoroku woodblock game board featuring images of beauties and landscapes. Sugoroku is a dice game similar to snakes and ladders that was popular with both adults and children, with participants moving counters around the board. The game board includes 10 landscape squares, including a view of mount Fuji and a tea stand at a plum garden, and 10 portraits of beauties, along with a double square starting point at the top showing a courtesan, a nobleman, and a warrior, and a double square finishing point at the bottom with a shamisen next to a stand with an open songbook on it. The scenes are all beautifully detailed. A terrific large format example of these charming game boards, composed of six attached oban size sheets.
