The Imperial Palace in Tokyo, 1868

Comments - Handsome illustration of the Meiji Emperor arriving in state at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. He rides in an enclosed palanquin topped with a phoenix figurine, carried by a team of men in matching yellow robes. Two lines of noblemen climb the steps to the palace at right, passing solemnly through the entrance. Cloth panels emblazoned with the Meiji chrysanthemum crest hang from the eaves and the sides of the building, as lucky cranes fly overhead. An impressive view of this historic event, nicely detailed.

Artist - Kuniteru II (dates after 1863) (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Some light staining. Soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
