Nakamura Shikan IV as the Acting Teacher and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Sarukichiro, 1867

Comments - Interesting kabuki double portrait featuring Nakamura Shikan IV as an acting teacher and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Sarukichiro. They appear to be standing inside the same pair of pants, or perhaps they are just holding the pants in front of them. Each holds one end of a white towel. At right, the acting teacher looks over his shoulder with a sly grin, while Sarukichiro stares ahead with a glum frown. A large temple bell hangs over head against the night sky. An intriguing subject, also in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Some soiling. Some rubbing. A couple horizontal creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
