Descending Geese at Hokkyo

Series; Military Brilliance for the Eight Views, 1852

Descending Geese at Hokkyo - Terrific portrait of the great general Fujiwara no Masakiyo (Kato Kiyomasa) watching as a flock of geese descends at Hokkyo. Wearing a fine robe over his armor and a battle helmet topped with a tall black cap, the warrior shields his eyes with his hand as he scans the sky, lips pursed in a scowl. Silhouetted against a drift of clouds, the birds fly past a tall gray mountain, the peak shaded in black. Wonderful detail in the intricately patterned gloves and brocade trim on the robe. A very expressive figure and a great samurai subject by Kuniyoshi.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/2" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Vertical fold near left edge. Tiny hole, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
