The Battle of Mutsu Province in 1187, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Dramatic illustration of two samurai dueling during the Battle of Mutsu Province in 1187. At center left, a warrior wearing a helmet topped with deer antlers lunges at his opponent, cornering him with his back against a large pine tree. The other samurai grimaces as he grabs hold of his attacker by the wrist and back. The elaborate personal standards of the men clash above their heads as the pair grapples. A dappled horse waits at right, the ground littered with arrows, weapons, and shield, while the fighting continues at left. Great expressive figures and beautiful color and detail in this hands design. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has this image in its collection.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Vertical fold. Slight soiling and creasing, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
