Ladies' Customs and Manners

Tea Ceremony - Handsome triptych of upper-class ladies enjoying a tea ceremony. In the center, the hostess kneels before a small brazier warming a pot of water with a bamboo dipper resting across it. A tea caddy, whisk, and white cloth for wiping the tea bowl sit nearby. Three guests sit at right, one beauty cradling the tea bowl in her hands. At left, a woman kneels on a red floral robe next to a flower arrangement, a pair of scissors in her hand. Beautifully detail in the elegant kimono and obi fabrics, including burnishing in the black coat at left. A charming depiction of this time-honored ritual.
