A Present-day Suikoden

Bando Shuka I as Kijin Omatsu, 1862 - Terrific half-length portrait of the kabuki actor Bando Shuka I in the role of the female bandit Kijin Omatsu. She smiles happily as she turns to look over her shoulder, her long hair pulled into a low knotted ponytail, with shorter hair on top framing her face. Her kimono features a bold design of a snake among swirling gray clouds, pine branches, and falling autumn leaves, its red tongue flickering out of its mouth. She is armed with two swords, and wears armor under her impressive robe. Fantastic detail in the delicate lines of the hair. A great expressive image.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at edges from previous mounting. Small loss at edge, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
