The Great Battle of Kurikaradani, 1853

Comments - Incredible scene of the famous 12th century Battle of Kurikaradani in which the Minamoto defeated the Taira. At left, the warrior Minamoto (Kiso) Yoshinaka wrestles with Mikawa no Kami Tomonori on a steep bank. At right, the samurai Unno Kotaro has just knocked an enemy over the side of a rocky outcropping, the warrior and his horse falling through the air. The fighting continues below, as troops clash with spears on horseback. A terrific composition with a dramatic natural setting under a dark night sky. A fantastic subject for a samurai enthusiast.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 1/8" + margin as shown
