Comments - Terrific depiction of the samurai Takeda Katsuyori from the kabuki play "Honcho Nijushiko." Supposed to have committed suicide, a substitute had taken his place, and he has joined the household of his father's enemy disguised as the gardener, Minosaku, in order to retrieve a magic helmet that was a family heirloom. He stands boldly with his legs spread firmly apart, an elegant lacquer box raised in his outstretched hand as he stares over his shoulder with a suspicious expression. He wears a pale blue kamishimo with a colorful diamond pattern in the center over an orange robe with matching diamond trim, his two swords at his side. The colorful figure is set off by a dramatic black background. A great design, nicely detailed with burnishing in the hair, box, and scabbards, plus light embossing in the diamond pattern.
