Goyo Studio Reprints - Hashiguchi Goyo is the undisputed master of the 20th century shin-hanga movement. A secondary part of his career was reprinting beautiful old ukiyo-e designs from the golden age of the Japanese woodblock print. Between 1918 and 1920, much of Goyo’s artistic work was devoted to creating these incredible woodblock reprints of classic ukiyo-e prints. Each image was painstakingly copied from an original and stamped with the Goyo circular seal. Line by line, color by color, the prints were recreated in Goyo’s studio to perfectly emulate these masterworks of ukiyo-e. Goyo took pride in this work and the release of his reprints was met with great acclaim.

Today, original Goyo reprints are highly sought after by collectors and rare to find. This is an exceptional opportunity!

The Fourth Month - Charming Harunobu design of a wandering monk called a komuso stopping to chat with two young women through a window. He pauses to look up as a cuckoo flies past at upper right. He carries a large basket hat and a shakuhachi flute, and wears a black monk's mantle over his white kimono. A narrow stream winds behind him, and delicate plants grow alongside the house. A handsome subject with beautiful embossing in the monk's white kimono. Please note, this print does not have the Goyo seal.
