Gojo Bridge Moon - Great image depicting Minamoto no Yoshitsune in his youth during his famous confrontation with the warrior Benkei on Gojo Bridge. Benkei had been stealing swords from the samurai who crossed the bridge, to melt them down to make into one incredible sword for himself. Known then as Ushiwakamaru, the young warrior leaps agilely into the sky to avoid Benkei's clutches, tossing his folding fan at his attacker. He seems to hang weightless in midair, his legs tucked up beneath him and his white robe fluttering around him. A full moon glows high above as clouds streak across the pale gray sky. A terrific design from this legendary incident, beautifully detailed with fine cloth embossing in the white robe and burnishing in the armor and sandals.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 13" x 8 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse near top corners from previous mounting. Slight soiling, a few spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
