Original Shin-hanga & Modern artist (not read) Japanese Woodblock Print
Danshichi Kurobei

Comments - Terrific shin-hanga kabuki portrait of the ronin Danshichi Kurobei, who murders his father-in-law during an argument in the famous play "Natsu Matsuri." He stands next to a well after washing the blood from his hands, blood still running down his face from a wound to his forehead. He looks over his shoulder with a sinister frown, fully aware that he faces death if he is caught by the authorities. A beautifully expressive figure, detailed with embossed lines along the sides of the nose, and fine shading around the eyes.
