Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Bride and Attendants, 1868

Comments - Attractive scene of a bride and her attendants in a palace during the wedding ceremony. She sits on a platform at top center beneath a rolled up blind, wearing a cloud patterned robe and a tall court cap, her long hair falling loosely over her back. A man in court dress sits at left, while the attendant before him holds a long-handled sake server. Offering trays beside her hold a stack of graduated red lacquer sake cups and an object atop lengths of cloth. An interesting subject.
