Court Ladies Board a Train at the Station, 1879

Comments - Intriguing image of ladies-in-waiting to the royal court preparing to board a train. In the center, two women lead a companion by the hand as she walks hesitantly forward. AT left, an attendant and a guard kneel respectfully next to a carriage. Behind the beauties a row of policemen in black uniforms stand elbow to elbow next to the station building, while Japanese flags fly next to the cavalrymen on horseback at left. A fascinating Meiji era subject, with vibrant color and nice detail.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few holes, a couple small losses, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, a few spots and marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
