Series; Outer Chiyoda Palace (Chiyoda no on-omote)

Returning from Hunting at Koganegahara, 1897 - A fantastic Meiji era triptych showing the shogun's hunting party at Koganegahara, four mounted riders among them. This type of hunting was reserved for members of the upper class and these important feudal lords are enjoying a typical hunt outing, their attendants carrying a boars and what might be a wolf or fox tied to poles. The silhouette of Mt. Fuji rises in the distance. Nice embossed detail in the white cloth banners, with burnishing on the saddle of the first rider and the scabbards. A beautiful composition with wonderful color and detail.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 27 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
