Uoya Eikichi's 1918 One Hundred Famous Views of Edo - This beautiful bound volume is a posthumous edition of Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" by the original series publisher, Uoya Eikichi. In 1918, Uoya Eikichi re-released a complete set of Hiroshige’s "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" in a small edition, with prints of the highest quality rivaling those of the lifetime edition. Using only the most skilled printers and carefully matching the paper and inks to the Edo era printing, Uoya Eikichi used many original blocks, supplementing them when necessary by replacements. Each print is accompanied by a facing page with Japanese text and a contemporary photo of the same location in 1918, showing the dramatic changes that had taken place in the sixty years since the original publication of the series between 1856 and 1858.

This Complete Set - This complete bound volume includes all 118 woodblock prints from Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo," along with a title page and table of contents, in full oban format. The prints are mounted along the sides, back and front, accordion style, with the final print mounted to the back cover of the book. It features paper covers with sheer silk overlays and a title slip, housed in a traditional cloth-covered case with toggle closures.

This series includes some of Hiroshige's most famous and memorable subjects. As Hiroshige's lifetime prints from this series have continued to climb in price, this wonderful 1918 edition from Uoya Eikichi offers a great opportunity to collect a complete series in a beautiful old print set, a bound volume, as issued by the publisher. This set is almost never sold complete. The last one we saw offered in Japan was priced at $9,500. We're opening our set at $249, any high bid wins! Don't miss this excellent opportunity.
