Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
Angry Boatman and Flock of Birds, 1842 - 1846

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene showing a boatman angrily lifting his hat above his head, grimacing at a young man who turns away in fright, cowering behind his sleeve. The boatman wears a tie-dyed cropped shirt and matching leggings, and a red tie-dyed loincloth. The fellow has a folded up straw raincoat tucked beneath his arm. The beauty at right tilts her head with a coy expression, the edge of her scarf caught between her teeth. A flock of birds soars through the night sky above them. A striking design with expressive figures.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A few small losses at edges and wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few small stains and creases, slight curling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
