Series; One Hundred Famous Views of Kuwana

One Hundred Famous Views of Kuwana - Not much is known about the artist Hashiba Tadahiro. Around 1954 - 1955, he created a series called "One Hundred Famous Views of Kuwana," depicting scenery and locations around the city of Kuwana, a former station on the famous Tokaido Road. The city is located along three major rivers: the Kiso, the Ibi, and the Nagara. Also known as "The Poems of the Land and the Things in Kuwana," only around seventy prints are currently known from the series. These lovely designs feature a handsome color palette, primarily in tones of blue, green, and brown, along with soft edges that give the images a dreamy, atmospheric quality. Each print is mounted on the reverse at the top corners to a windowed viewing folder as originally issued, with the artist's seal in the lower corner of each print. Each folder has "Hashiba Kuwana" embossed in small letters at lower right. This is the first time we've offered designs from this charming, lyrical landscape series.
