Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Elegant Amusements on a Spring Evening, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Handsome scene of Mitsuuji, the "Country Genji," enjoying an evening of musical entertainment with his guests. At right, Mitsuuji plays a one-stringed zither called an ichigenkin. A beauty sits beside him, and a man with his back to the viewer plays a biwa or lute. In the center, Mitsuuji's son plays a flute while a woman next to him prepares to trim the flame of a lamp. Refreshments are set out on trays in the center of the room, which overlooks a garden with a blossoming plum tree in early spring. Wonderful detail in the palace setting and furnishings. Includes burnishing in the black kimono and the black cushion Mitsuuji sits on.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/8" x 28 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, partially backed with paper. Slight separation at ends of vertical fold in center panel, a few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
