Original Edo era Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauties in a Country House Paper Model

Comments - Terrific three-dimensional model of a country house, complete with a separate smaller teahouse with a thatched roof and a garden pond surrounded by blossoming cherry trees. Both the house and the teahouse fold out to become three dimensional rooms with beauties taking part in a variety of activities in the windows and inside the house. In the window at left, a woman reads a long letter, while behind her, a beauty plays koto. There is a second room that folds out from the back side with green tatami mats on the floor, which can replace the beauty playing koto next to a folding screen. A fascinating and charming omocha-e or toy print in a format we've never before seen.
