Eighth Month: Moon-viewing party - Charming Chikanobu triptych of beauties enjoying a moon-viewing party in August. In the center, a beauty plays the koto while a woman behind her carries in a tray piled with sweets. A larger tray on the floor is heaped with colorful flowers and sweets in the form of rabbits, an offering tray of graduated red sake cups and a sake kettle nearby. The woman at right sits on a cushion, leaning against an elegant lacquer armrest, a fan in hand. A full yellow moon glows softly behind the pine branches framing the garden. A handsome design from a rarely seen series, detailed with touches of embossing in the white kimono trim, and burnishing in the black obi and the black lacquer architectural elements.
