Original Kokunimasa (1874 - 1944) Japanese Woodblock Print
Night Battle during the Sino-Japanese War

Comments - Dramatic illustration of an officer on horseback galloping across the field during a Sino-Japanese War battle. Gripping his sword upright, he charges ahead despite the bullets streaking across the night sky. Several soldiers crawl along the ground behind him, while a Chinese enemy lies dead at right. The fighting continues outside a fortress at upper right, partially obscured by billowing smoke. At upper left, misty clouds drift across a full moon in the dark sky. A handsome composition with touches of burnishing in the uniforms and fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Kokunimasa (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 27 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Horizontal and vertical folds. Slight toning and creasing, a few small marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
