Saigo Takamori and Generals Arguing, 1877

Comments - Handsome depiction of Saigo Takamori and generals in a government meeting. Saigo, the future leader of the rebel samurai, sits on a chair third from the left as the man beside him leaps to his feet arguing angrily with the other officers. Nicely detailed with embossing in the white feathers on the hats and burnishing in the black uniforms. We've never come across this subject before.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 29 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Vertical fold at left edge of each panel. A few wormholes and holes, slight thinning along fold in left panel. Slight soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
