Meiji Empress Stepping Out of a Carriage

Comments - Attractive scene of the Meiji Empress stepping out of a carriage to join two of her ladies in waiting. Each of the women wears the latest European fashions, with full bustled dresses and bonnets adorned with feathers, flowers, and ribbons. The uniformed man standing at right may be the Meiji Emperor. Flags and lanterns hang from lines above, and a blossoming cherry tree frames the scene. Beautifully detailed with burnishing in the black uniforms and the black lacquer areas of the carriage.
