Comments - Lovely view of beauties playing music inside Horikawa Palace. At right, a princess sits on a platform in a side room, a koto on the floor before her. In the room below, women are gathered around an ornate black lacquer table piled high with gifts and food. Several of the ladies hold instruments, including flutes, a biwa or lute, and a hand drum, with at woman at right kneeling next to a large drum on a stand. A beauty enters at left, with attendants holding out lanterns to light her way, the group smiling in greeting. The verandah at left overlooks a lake surrounded by a garden with blossoming cherry trees. Beautiful detail in the sumptuous fabrics and interior furnishings. A wonderful Edo era design.
