Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Spring Morning, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Attractive scene of Prince Genji paying a visit to a beauty on a spring morning. He smiles happily as he looks in through the window, wearing a striped coat over a light brown kimono with a blue and white leaf pattern in the center. Inside, a young beauty sits on a cushion, looking down shyly and biting her sleeve as a companion carries in robes for her. At left, a young page and a woman peer around the edge of the screen, the beauty giggling into her sleeve. The setting is beautifully detailed, with a folding screen patterned with flowering cherry trees, and a plum tree with delicate blossoms and buds frames the view at right. A lovely design, detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim.
