Original Okura Koto (active circa 1894 - 1905) Japanese Woodblock Print
Lieutenant Ozaki, 1895

Series; The Spirit of Japan, 1894 - 1895

The Spirit of Japan - Handsome portrait of one of the heroes of the Sino-Japanese War from a series titled "The Spirit of Japan." The artist Okura Koto was a student of Ogata Gekko, and his style is very reminiscent of his master's, drawn with fluid calligraphic line work and rendered in soft color. These bold designs depict soldiers in action or striking heroic poses. An interesting and very rarely seen series.

Artist - Okura Koto (active circa 1894 - 1905)

Image Size - 12 3/4" x 8 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few stitching holes at top edge, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. A couple prints have small spots or slight rubbing at edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
