Comments - Attractive scene of the young Ushiwakamaru (the future Yoshitsune) serenading Princess Joruri outside her mansion. He stands beside the garden gate, playing a flute, a servant crouching beside him with an angry expression. Inside the courtyard, a matron holds a lantern aloft, while others hurry to join her across the stepping stone. The princess is seen inside the mansion, playing the koto to accompany him. The garden is filled with flowers and grasses, with vines cascading over the fence. A few geese are seen in silhouette against the night sky as they descend for the evening. A charming subject, beautifully detailed.
