Nagakubo: Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Gorota

Series; The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido, 1852

Nagakubo: Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Gorota - Handsome portrait of Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Gorota lifting a heavy block of cut stone. He leans forward with a worried expression as he grasps the rock with both hands. He wears a blue robe with a large white seal with kanji characters on the back, a blue and white dotted cloth wrapped about his head. The scene above shows travelers on a mountainous pass on the way to Nagakubo, pausing for a rest on a stony pathway under a tall pine tree. A nice expressive figure with an attractive landscape setting in the background.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous mounting. Slight separation at end of horizontal centerfold, tiny loss at edge, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
