Sawamura Tanosuke III as Kiritaro, 1860 - Great kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tanosuke III as the young boy Kiritaro, staring intently at the supernatural red flame rising from the water dipper in his hand. He wears a light rust-colored kimono with a subtle burnished geometric pattern and embossed white inserts with flowers and scrolls. His red under robe features a design of grasses and flowering plants, and his hair is pulled back into two loops in the pageboy style. Leaves drift down through the night sky and a bat flies through the air. Beautifully detailed with fine line work in the hair, fine bokashi shading, and a dusting of mica on the background.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/4"
