Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Pinks, circa 1830s

Series; Elegant Floral Calendar

Pinks, circa 1830s - Charming print of a mother carrying a baby who seems to be just waking up, rubbing his eyes sleepily. The beauty wears a blue and white kimono patterned with bats, one of which appears to be reading, tied with a black obi that reverses to a gray and white stripe. Behind her, a pile of bedding rests atop a bed, and small toys including a wheeled fish, a top, and a doll with a lion dance mask. Pinks or dianthus frame the oval title cartouche at upper right. A nicely detailed design. We've never before come across this series.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/4" x 10"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. A few small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling and rubbing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
