Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Seigen and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Ushiwaka Denji, 1858

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene featuring Ichikawa Kodanji IV as the depraved priest Seigen, riding in a boat with Ushiwaka Denji, played by Kawarazaki Gonjuro I. Seigen kneels before the boatman with an alarmed expression, waving his hands as he looks up. His face is shaded blue around the eyes, indicating that he is either a ghost or is dying. Ushiwaka Denji scowls angrily as he poles the craft towards the shore beneath a willow tree. Nice expressive figures with an interesting setting.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 10" + top margins as shown
