Series; Actors on Sake Cups to a Full House

Sawamura Tossho I as Sakuramaru, circa 1840 - Terrific kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tossho I as Sakuramaru, one of the famous samurai triplets, from a rarely seen series featuring actors reflected in red lacquer sake cups. He grimaces angrily as he looks over his shoulder, clutching his robe to his chest. His kimono is patterned with his namesake cherry blossoms (sakura). The deluxe red orange pigment on the cup has oxidized to a dark gray in some areas. A bold design with beautiful detail.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A couple tiny tears at edges, a few small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a couple light creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
