Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Kodanji IV, 1860

Comments - Fantastic kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kodanji IV as a man in a bathhouse, raising a sword high above his head with an alarmed frown, his other hand thrown at his side. His blue and white checked kimono slips off his shoulder, and his wet hair hangs limply at the sides of his face. The horizontal boards and vertical posts of the wall behind him created a strong geometric backdrop for the figure. A terrific, bold design, beautifully composed and shaded.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at right side, repaired. Slight soiling, a few spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
