The Defeat of the Mongol Invasion Fleet, 1863

Comments - Fantastic illustration of the defeat of the Mongol attempt to invade Japan in the thirteenth century. Two major military invasions by the Mongols were defeated in part through huge ocean storms, which caused the attackers to lose troops and supplies. In this scene, the Japanese are assisted through divine intervention, as gusts of wind sweep across the sky and giant wave engulf the attacking Mongol ship. Dragons and ghostly troops appear in the night sky above. Samurai watch from the shore below, their banners and standards whipping in the wind. An intriguing subject.
