Series; Snow, Moon, Flowers

Yamashiro, Moon after Rain over an Old Temple, Mitsu-uji and Tasogare, No. 46 - Charming scene from a novel called "False Murasaki, Rustic Genji," a parody of the famous "Tale of Genji" with Mitsu-uji standing in for Prince Genji. He is shown here with his lover Tasogare enjoying a moonlight encounter in a secluded old temple. His softly shaded kimono features a Genji pattern, and he smiles at his beloved as she rests her hand on his shoulder. The inset above shows Tasogare's mother, Shinonome, who follows them to the temple and attempts to frighten them by wearing a demon mask. A lovely scene of the happy young couple enjoying a moment together. Includes embossing in Shinonome's kimono and burnishing in the black lacquer table.
