Original Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Archery Contest, 1868

Comments - Fantastic triptych of an archery contest taking place on horseback before a crowd of seated samurai, under a branching canopy of pines. Two warriors gallop on horseback, one holding his bow out after firing off an arrow, while the other takes careful aim as he rides. Other archers on horseback watch the proceedings with arrows tucked into the back of their waists. Great detail in the equipment of the archers. A terrific woodblock print that would make an impressive display.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Horizontal centerfold. Stitching holes at one side of each panel, a couple small losses at corners and wormholes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
