Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a barber arriving at a shop, standing at the door. He carries his wooden box of tools with one hand, a number of combs visible in the top compartment. He frowns as he tilts his head to the side rather warily, tucking up his kimono with his free hand. The beauty in the center smiles at him quietly, while the seated man and matron at right exchange glances. The beauty wears an orange and brown plaid kimono, her hair adorned with red ribbons and a floral ornament with a tassel. The matron holds aside the tied-dyed curtains as she pauses in the doorway. From left to right, the actors are Onoe Kikugoro V, Onoe Kikunosuke, Nakamura Fukusuke, and Ichikawa [?]. Wonderful detail in the setting and colorful figures, with touches of burnishing in the black kimono trim and obi.
